How I got into cooking – I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Arizona State University. I have worked in healthcare since 1998. I was laid off in 2008, and times were tough finding a new job/career. So I decided to lean on my Journalism degree, and start looking for something in that arena. During that search, I came across a site looking for writers to write/blog about food and cooking, called Examiner. I thought, “why not?” It didn’t pay much, but I figured it would help with stress and boredom, and keep me abreast of my journalistic skills….which could help in any possible future career. This is when my true love for food and cooking began. Sure, my mom made me help her in the kitchen when I was much younger, and I was known for my chocolate chip pan cookies around the neighborhood every Friday, but aside from that, mac n’ cheese (with a side of chocolate milk), was about all I was cooking on my own in my teens. It was only when I was laid off from my job at the age of 38, unemployed for four months, that I dove into food, recipes and cooking. Yes, I am still in healthcare today and have a great job…..but haven’t stopped my passion for cooking and writing about it.
After cooking and writing articles for about a year, I was approached by someone on Facebook requesting if I would be interested letting him film me cooking new recipes. Turns out, this guy, Jeff, is a musician, and he likes to film recipes being made, then edits the videos, adding his music in the background. It’s kind of a genius way to get his music out there. I loved the idea, thought he was a cool dude, so we began throwing dinner parties every Sunday evening. It was a blast, and this went on for about a year. But all good things come to an end (he moved away). Lots of videos came from that, which you will see through-out my site…..and may be able to tell I was a little younger, and a little blonder….but still fun to watch.
Today, I still write for the blog on the side, and have now created my own site, Keep it in the Kitchen. I also supply recipes to a club I belong to, and another website, called Just a Pinch. Many of my own recipes have won “blue ribbon” awards through Just a Pinch, and one even got published in a cooking magazine and my local newspaper (Bang n’ Blueberry Coffee Cake). I have a full passion for cooking now, and mostly cook only healthy meals for myself. However, I do love to bake, and can’t help myself in that area sometimes. I also cook meals for my family and friends on occasion, which is where the “unhealthier” meals come from. But hey, I eat those too, just all in moderation.
It’s 80% diet, 20% movement – For as long as I can remember, I have cared about my health and my body image….maybe to a fault. Not gonna lie, I don’t consider myself overweight, but I am a perfectionist, and strive to always look my best in a bathing suit. Ever since passing the age of 40, things have changed. I can’t pop back into shape as quickly after the holidays. And if I take any time off from the gym or eating right, it takes twice as long to get it back. For years I have had a goal I have tried to hit, eating super healthy, cutting back on alcohol, getting a trainer at the gym, etc. Nothing seemed to get me where I wanted, until I discovered Isagenix. This product changed my body in only a few months, and brought me closer to my goal than ever before. Believe me, I tried it all. Isagenix offers highly nutritional products and programs built to bring out the best in everyone, whether you want to lose fat and weight, increase your energy, or just age gracefully. The transformations I see daily are exceptional. I love the products, and will never stop using them. They are LEGIT! The program entails drinking shakes, eating snacks, and having one healthy meal a day. I get to cook one healthy meal a day and prepare snacks, and focus on keeping it healthy. I still go out and enjoy a restaurant meal as well, and I will have cheat days (don’t be crazy)….but like I said before, it’s all in moderation. I am looking and feeling the best I ever have. Send me a message if you are interested in learning more about Isagenix.
I hope you enjoy my site and my recipes. Thanks for visiting.
